Browser setup & companion extensions

SETUP

Competitor Scout supports desktop Chrome and Edge. Install companion extensions separately from their official publisher pages in the same browser profile.

Keywords Everywhere can add DA widgets to Google results; missing DA still uses one shared Bulk checker tab. Buster is optional: open the provider’s verification tab and use its challenge controls yourself. Scout cannot install or control another extension. Age APIs need no companion extension; Ahrefs API keys belong in the section below. Other browsers are not verified for this Scout build.

Competitor filters

01

Each site runs one metric at a time. A verified failure rejects immediately. In DR-first mode, only a verified DR below your limit unlocks traffic. Unavailable DR retries within the attempt limit, then stays marked for review and traffic is skipped. Different sites can run concurrently. Missing-DA checks use Bulk mode in one reusable Keywords Everywhere tab, up to 100 domains per batch. Provider cooldowns still apply.

DA is always strictly below 20; you can choose a stricter limit. The age limit also applies. Thresholds are strict: 20 DA, 10 months, and 1,000 traffic do not pass their respective defaults.

Research pacing

02

Natural pacing is recommended. Every Google page gets an 8–13 second observation window for DA widgets, with bounded extra time for slow loading. All readable DA is captured together and kept even beside purchase offers. Missing scores use Bulk mode in one reusable Keywords Everywhere tab, matched by domain. Temporary connection failures keep those sites pending; provider cooldowns and verification are respected. A verified DA below your limit starts age checks. Only a verified age below your limit starts Ahrefs DR; passing DR unlocks traffic. Fast mode reduces site-check delays while Google navigation remains paced. New Google searches pause for verification. Open that tab and click its checkbox yourself; if you use Buster, click its challenge button manually. Scout cannot control another extension. Existing site checks continue. Pause preserves the queue and cancels queued actions.

Automatic workflow

03

New searches check DA, age and DR first, with traffic left for later by default. Use Continue traffic in the dashboard’s Agent coordinator to add traffic to the saved shortlist, or select DA → age → DR → traffic before starting.

All keywords, discovered sites, DA, age, traffic, DR, sources and complete run history save automatically in extension memory. Data stays in this Chrome profile between restarts. Download a complete memory backup from the dashboard. Research uses background tabs and keeps the dashboard selected.

Ordinary Ahrefs script-loading errors retry automatically with bounded backoff. Persistent blocking remains unknown for review; other checks continue. Ahrefs checks retain the same domain and tab when verification appears. Open the verification tab from the dashboard, complete it yourself, and Scout resumes automatically. Other workers continue. Google searches use paced navigation and DA uses one Bulk tab.

As soon as a verified DA is below your limit, Scout asks the domain’s registration APIs for its registration date. Built-in lookup needs no API keys or checker setup. The age website remains an optional mode. Google, missing DA and age checks have separate queues. Dates are cached for 30 days. Registries may limit requests; Scout respects their cooldowns. If a registry cannot supply a date, an optional connected checker can be used. Traffic and DR run only after a verified age below your limit.

Ahrefs DR API

API

Create a free Ahrefs account and generate a free API key once. DR tries the official free Domain Rating API first. If a key is unavailable, Scout tries another enabled key. Temporary API errors retry; persistent errors can use the separate DR checker page. Rate-limited requests retain their cooldown. It does not return traffic or backlink counts. Provider rate limits and cooldowns apply.

Add keys as needed. Scout selects an available enabled key and keeps the DR queue moving. Provider-wide limits pause API requests for all keys; adding a key does not override those limits. Transient API errors retry before the website fallback is considered. Test key sends one check when clicked. During active research, failed keys also receive bounded background recovery tests with backoff; healthy keys are not repeatedly tested. A successful recovery returns queued DR work to the API without interrupting an active website check. Only sites that pass DA and age reach DR.

Keys stay in this extension's local storage and are omitted from dashboard state, reports and memory backups. Saved lists show labels and connection status only. Traffic uses the browser checker; CAPTCHA there still requires your verification.

Registration age lookup

04

Built-in registration APIs are the default and need no API key. Scout uses authoritative registry routes and verifies the requested domain and its registration event. Where a registry publishes alternative endpoints, failed routes can try another. Provider rate limits are respected, and an unreadable date stays unknown. The IPLocation website mode and connected checker are optional.

Optional checker setup: download the connection file, then open Connect-Age-Checker.cmd in the bundled age-checker-adapter folder. It copies your installed checker and adds the connection. Load that copy with Chrome’s Load unpacked button.

Built-in registration APIs are ready. No API key is required.

Website account

Connect to your Scout website to activate this browser and save your research online. Ahrefs and Keywords Everywhere keys stay in this browser.

Checking account…

Changed research syncs every minute while Chrome is running. Sync all also uploads older run history. Disconnect revokes this browser’s token; an administrator can reset the installation to move your license.

Manage local research history

Download a memory backup before clearing. Clearing removes local keywords, sites, metrics and run history.
